Man gaoled for bashing girl
(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, May 2. A former member of the Hell’s Angels motor-cycle gang was sentenced to two years gaol by Mr Justice McMullin today for assault. His Honour said the prisoner had set himself up as an agent to discipline a girl for not conforming to gang standards.
Miles Athol Brown, aged 1 20, a storeman, of Ponsonby, i appeared for sentence after having been found guilty by a jury last month of assault with intent to injure. The of-1 fence was alleged to have: taken place in June last year.: His Honour said Brown had punched the girl heavily on the face, kicked her with heavy working boots, and l beat her with a paling or a bat. The girl took three weeks i to recover from her injuries.! Obviously, the girl was ini some state of terror over the attack, because she was reluctant initially to assist the; police. Two other members of the gang had been sentenced re-1 cently to three years impri-i sonment for similar assaults.’ “In my view the gravity of| assault on this girl was such, that any sentence, other than! one of imprisonment, cannot! be entertained,” his Honour’ told Brown. Counsel, Mr B. J. Hart, said; that since the offence Brown
had ended his association with the Hell’s Angels.
