Regional court?

A regional court of appeal which would hear appeals from Australian and New Zealand Supreme Courts may be established to replace the present practice of appeals to the Privy Council. The New South Wales A’torney-General Mr Ken IMcCaw, said that the standing committee of At- ■ torneys-General would consider the possibility of establishing the court. Mr McCaw was comment- [ ing on reports that the Prime i Minister (Mr Whitlam) had made approaches to the British Government for the abolition of certain Australian ties to the British legal system. Mr McCaw said that any regional court of appeal would most certainly include the services of a New Zealand supreme court justice. In an earlier statement the Premier of New South Wales (Sir Robert Askin) said the matter would be considered by Mr McCaw’s department (which would then make a recommendation to Cabinet
