Mr E. H. Poole, the deputy principal of Kiccarton High School, who has been named as the commandant of the Commonwealth Games village. The appointment of Mr Poole was announced yesterday by the chairman of the village committee. Mr H. T. Dean, who said that Mr Poole would be the controller of all village activities. After spending some of his earlier years in Greymouth, Mr Poole was educated at St Andrew’s College and the University of Canterbury. He taught at Darfield and Linwood high schools before joining the staff of Riccarton High School three years ago. Mr Poole’s sports interests include golf, cricket and Rugby. He has administered junior cricket ' and selected secondary schools' Rugby teams. For the last three years he has been the commandi ing officer of the Sec i Battalion (Canterbury. Nelson, Marlborough. West Coast) of the Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment and he was recently’ appointed deputy commander of No. 3 Infantry Brigade. Mr A. Withington was earlier named the village executive and Mrs B. McKenna. the women’s ; commandant.
