Jugoslav gaoled
(N.Z P A.-Reuter —Copyright > BELGRADE. April 29. A former Jugoslav Interior Minister, Vojin Lukic, was sentenced yesterday to 18 months in prison after being found guity of three counts of spreading hostile propaganda against the State. Lukic. aged 53, a lawyer and veteran Partisan, is the highest former official to be sentenced to prison since Milovan Djilas, a former Vice-President. The Court found that Lukic had been involved in spreading hostile propaganda from autumn. 1969, to December, 1972, when he was arrested. He had maliciously and untruthfully represented conditions in the country and called for the overthrow of social order and the undermining of the national unity. Lukic fell from power in 1966, in connection with the deposing of Alexander Rankovic, former Vice-President and Security Chief. Although the charges derived from the period after Lukic's fall from power, the sentencing was regarded by observers as a stern warning to former Rankovic followers and others sometimes grouped under the heading of “neo-Stalinists” not to engage in political activity.
