Money sent for Thomas trial
f.Vt'ic Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, April 29. Arthur Allan Thomas has twice been found guilty of the Crewe murders, hut hundreds of dollars in contributions toward the fight for a third trial have been received.
The chairman of the Arthur Thomas Retrial Committee (Mr G. P. Vesey) said tonight he was delighted with the response so far to the third leg of the campaign to prove Thomas innocent. Scores of letters had been received by the committee, he said, and gifts of money! vere pouring in. Dozens of letters, containing more than SBOO. had come in at the week-end. One,
letter contained a cheque for’ $250. Mr Vesey said that many of the writers were unknown to him or other members of! the committee. A cheque for $2O had been received from an old-age pensioner who wanted to help the cause in the best way she could. i Two people had flown to 1 Auckland to meet him and! discuss the possibility of set-[ [ting up a Christchurch) [branch. And in Nelson, people were also considering setting up a local committee.
