N.Z.R.F.U. COUNCIL Seat sought by selector
(New Zealand Press Association? WELLINGTON. The recently-appointed national selection convener. Mr J. Stewart, of Wanganui, has been nominated for one of the three North Island seats on the New Zealand Rugby Football I nion Council.
The nominations, which closed at 5 p.m'. yesterday, were released by the acting secretary of the union (Mr !•'. I). Kilby). The election of officers will be at the union’s annual meeting in Wellington on April 18. Only one present council lor, Mr V. L. George, of (Southland, who has retired.: (is not seeking re-election. All (others have been renomina- | ted. Mr Stewart will oppose; Messrs R. M. Don (Auckland), D. K Ross 'North Auckland) and N. H. Stanley (Taranaki) ( (the sitting members. Mr Stewart was elected (convener of the national) (selection panel at a councili meeting six weeks ago. Chairman nominated ( The chairman of the N.Z.R.F.U. (Mr J. Sullivan) has again been nominated by (the Taranaki union, and is expected to seek re-election as chairman at the new council’s first meeting, on April 19. The present council will 'meet for the last time on April 17. Mr L. Byars, the Mayor of Taumarunui, is the only nomination for president. Mr
Byars, at present in Scotland as a delegate to the International Rugby Board meeting. is the senior vice-presi-dent in the present council. He is of the King Country union. The president now is Mr E. P. Dwyet, of Marlborough. S.I. members In the South Island, the sitting members on the council, Messrs W. A. Craddock I (the longest-serving Rugby councillor) and J. P. Wild are opposed by three others, including Mr R. W. Thomas, of Canterbury. Eleven nominations for the 'executive have been received. The four seeking election are the chairman of the Hawke’s Bay union, Mr T. W. Johnson (the organiser of a proSpringbok tour rally), the Wellington coach. Mr A. P Freeman (nominated by Auckland), a former All Black. Mr W. H Clark (Nelson-Bavs), and Mr A. G. Aimes (Wellington). The present executive is: Messrs Sullivan, Kilby, D. Q. Blazey, J. L. Griffith, M. S Ingpen. E L. Todd and I. M. H. Vodanovich.
