Soccer tour in doubt

CN.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. Bournemouth, the English third division soccer team, may not tour New Zealand this year. The chairman of the New Zealand Football Association (Mr J. Cowie) said yesterday that the five-match, two-week tour by the club was in doubt. “Just at the moment it is in doubt,” Mr Cowie said. “I won’t say any more.” Mr Cowie said also that he would not make any comment on whether the other English team scheduled to tour this winter, the first division club, Stoke City, would play against the New Zealand team instead of four matches against provincial selections.

Mr Cowie, who chaired a joint tours committee meeting in Wellington on Sunday, said he would make no comment about what happened at the meeting. He will make a statement at the next council meeting in Wellington on May 4 and 5. Stoke is scheduled to begin its tour on May 12.
