Quiet firmer trading in Australia
Trading on Australian stock exchanges yesterday was quiet, though the market was slightly ’firmed. On the mining and oil boards, rises just outnumbered falls.
Among the mining stocks Broken Hill South, in response to last Friday’s interim result, gained 10c at 300 c,
Bougainville Copper gained 10c at 280 c, M.I.M. rose 6c at 298 c and Peko Wallsend 20c at 900 c.
C.R.A. was 6c higher at 610 c, Hamersley rose 5c at 215 c and N.B.H.C. was He higher at 336 c. i Poseidon was 20c up at ; 820 c. but North B.H. fell Ic. Among the oil issues Woodside-Burmah fell 20c but Ampol Exploration gained 7c at 132 c. Endeavour Oil fell 2c at 11c, Santos 5c at 215 c, Basin 2c at 9c, and Bridge Oil lost Ic. Magellan rose 5c at 140 c.! On the industrial boards,! B.H.P. Was stronger, gaining 16c at 934 c. British Tobacco was 6c! higher at 321 c and Philip ! Morris rose 20c at 1220 c.
