More talks today
WELLINGTON, April 2. Representatives of ihe , Shell-8.P.-Todd consortium met the Minister of Energy Resources (Mr Freer) for two hours and a half today in , further talks on the development of the Maui gas field. Mr Freer said after a meeting of Cabinet earlier today, that the group would be given until 5 p.m. tomorrow to give an answer to its proposals. The chairman of the con- ! sortium (Mr D. H. Tudhope)! said after the meeting that his group had more calculations to do tonight after the discussions today, and talks would be held with Mr Freer tomorrow. Whether the consortium would be able to give the Government an answer tomorrow would depend on the calculations, he said. He said Mr Freer's comments earlier today could not be regarded as an ultimatum to the corporation. Mr Tudhope said the consortium had been working to the 5 p.m. deadline since ’he proposals were announced weeks ago. It was originally' to have been today, but. being Cabinet day, Mr Freer had decided it was not a good day for long talks.
