Town Hall lights
Sir,—Can you explain why the main auditorium lights should be allowed to remain off as patrons were attempting to leave at the conclusion of the N.Z.B.C. concert on Thursday night? In the gloom there could well have been an injury, and 1 wonder if insurance would really compensate for the organiser’s neglect. Further, the discreet use of a fixed spotlight would have enchanced the appearance of Mr Ponti, who took his bows from the fringe of the stage lighting, which left him in shadow. One can only hope that the festival’s closing concert will be better produced. —Yours, etc., ENLIGHTEN ME. March 16, 1973. [Mr Patrick Connell, Town Hall manager, replies: “Town Hall technical staff were not informed by the N.Z.B.C. of the completion time of the concert. The lights were late in being turned on and for this we apologise. The situation should not occur again. The matter of lighting soloists is a technical one currently being considered by the electrical consultants.”]
