Tramper injured

I A member of a Christchurch tramping party, Phillip Nicholls, suffered a broken leg when he fell over a 20ft cliff while tramping in the Hapuku River area, just north of Kaikoura, at 7 a.m. on Saturday. The other members of the 18-strong party carried Mr Nicholls out to the road, a distance of about three miles, where he was met by the Kaikoura St John ambulance. Mr Nicholls was taken to the Kaikoura Hospital for treatment and later transferred to Christchurch. His condition was described by the Kaikoura Hospital as satisfactory.
