Major ski-field plan approved
The Minister of Forests (Mr Moyle) has opened the way for commercial development of a major skifield at Mount Hutt, about 45 miles south-west of Christchurch.
Mr Moyle has authorised ■ the Mount Hutt Ski-field I Development Company to i go ahead with the development of the field, located | on State forest land, sub- | ject to certain conditions. [ The company applied for [rights to develop the field I after the Forest Service 1 called for proposals from initerested parties last October. The company received •word a few days ago that the Minister had agreed to; its proposals so long as it satisfied him about details. Solicitors for the company and the Forest Service have since been working out acceptable development plans. A director of the company, Mr G. Harrow, said yesterday
that a prospectus would be issued on Monday inviting public participation in the company. The paid up capital now amounts to $63,000 and the directors wish to increase this to $200,000 to pay for development work including the installation of a tow. There will be public meetings in Christchurch, Ashburton, and Timaru next week at which full details of the company’s intentions will be explained. The new ski-field when developed will be one of the largest in New Zealand. Its appeal will lie in its proximity to large centres of population and Christchurch Airport.
