Award for bravery
| The Royal Humane Society! (of New Zealand has awarded! j a Kaitaia woman, Mrs G. A. Summerfield, its bronze' medal for bravery. Mrs Summerfield was the only person to be granted an( award when the society’s directors met in Christchurch yesterday. Mrs Summerfield’s award j is for bravery in rescuing al nine-year-old boy from aj (power line on March 19, ' 1972. The citation with the award said that the boy had (been trying to retrieve a golf I ball from the roof of a house! land had slipped while crossing a steep part of the roof. To save himself falling, he (seized a power line, but suf(fered an electric shock and (was unable to let go. Mrs Summerfield, without I considering her own safety, (seized the boy round the legs and brought him to the ground. She applied mouthI to-mouth resuscitation to the (boy, who was unconscious, land in due course he recovered in hospital. “Mrs Summerfield risked > serious electrocution by, her actions, which undoubtedly i saved the boy from more (serious injury,” the citation said.
