Fisher decides
The former Kiwi forward, |i J. H Fisher, has reluctantly!' shelved his intention of play-L ing one more season with', the Christchurch - Eastern'; Suburbs Rugby league pre-;; mier team before retiring!I from all football. Fisher continues to be i troubled by leg injuries that 11 he suffered in both testsj< against the Kangaroos in!< Australia last year and which 11 kept him on the sideline after [t (leading Canterbury in its ! [Rothmans tournament match It with Wellington in July. ;• I After the Wellington fix- !
ture, Fisher brought to an end a first-class career that extended back to 1960, and included tours to Australia (1963 and 1972) and Britain and France (1971, when he apeared in all six internationals). He had hoped to have a second, and final, season as Eastern's player-coach. Howlever, he will now have to be content to guide the side’s fortunes in a non-playing capacity and, in'Fisher’s absence. A. P. Rushton will captain Eastern against Hornby at the Show Grounds on Sunday.
