VELVET IN A NEW GUISE

A velvet, combining the best of silk and syntheticI fibre velvets, has been developed in the United States. Made of a fibre called “Qiana,” it is manufactured by Cheney Brothers, who have made velvets for many [years, and Du Pont, the [chemical giant.

The velvet is a combination of silk, nylon and rayon fibres. Unlike rayon velvet, it has the soft feel and opulent appearance of the traditional silk velvet. However, it is not as delicate as the silk cloth. The new fabric can be easily cleaned and the pile does not flatten and it is easy to sew and cut.
