Hose judge blind

(N.Z. Press Assucial ion I HAMILTON, March 23. Mr W. Rae spent this morning sniffing 13 roses at the Waikato Rose Society’s autumn show in Hamilton. Mr Rae, who is blind, had been asked to judge the perfumed rose section of the show, a task he carried out most successfully last year, said the president of the society (Mr S. Worster). “We feel a blind person has a greater sense of smell than a sighted person, and so we asked Mr Rae to be our judge again,” he said.

The show has attracted 100 entries, despite a very dry growing season. Mr Worster said the blooms were of a high standard considering the conditions.
