Big cash problem

(N.Z. Press Association) TAURANGA. A Tauranga real estate salesman, Mr E. Lees, had a $lO,OOO headache on Wednesday night—in cash. The $lO,OOO in bundles of $lO notes, wrapped in an old newspaper, was handed over as a deposit on a property late in the afternoon. “The customer told me he didn’t believe in cheques,” a bemused Mr Lees said.

“He apparently always pays by cash, regardless of how large the amount; he likes people to know' that his money is good. . . .” Arriving too late to be banked, the 1000 blue notes were a security problem for Mr Lees. However, after an uneventful night — “Nobody would dream where I stashed the money”—it was safely banked first thing on Thursday morning.
