Road toll 197
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, March 23. To noon today, 197 traffic deaths this year had been reported to the Ministry of Transport. At this time last year the toll was 169. The toll this month was 53, compared with 56 at the same time last March. There have been 11 roadaccident deaths in the Christchurch metropolitan area so far this year, compared with 10 last year. To midnight on Thursday, there were three road deaths for the month, compared with four in the corresponding period last March.
