Good start to fair season
The ewe fair season in Mid and North Canterbury has got off to a very good start. It ; looks as though values are generally something like two to three : times what they were ■ a year ago. ; Up until early this week two-tooth ewes had brought j to $24.10 for Coopworths at Tinwald and older ewes to $16.60 for Corriedales at > the Amberley southern fair, i Vendors are clearly : receiving very satisfactory i prices, but there was some • feeling, as at the Amberley
sale this week, that it might have been expected prices would be somewhat higher than they were. In fact this season, taking into account that they are probably receiving something between about $9 and $l2 for their cull ewes from the works — that is when they can get them killed — buyers are getting their replacements at very reasonable prices. There is thus the position, on account of the remarkable prices for old ewes from the works, that both vendors and buyers at the fairs should be pretty happy.
