YACHTING EVENTS
Busy time at week-end A most active and diversified programme, with attention divided between Lytteljton Harbour, the Estuary, and the Waimakariri River, lies ahead of Canterbury yachtsjmen tomorrow and on Sun- ' day. The harbour will be the ’i venue for the final heat of 1 i the Canterbury Sunburst i championship and the various sections of the provincial ■ ■Trailer-Sailer titles. Competitors in other classes will be able to take part in three open trophy events, also scheduled for tomorrow afternoon. In the Sunburst series, C. and R. Nordstrom have extended a strong challenge to the top-ranked crew, H. H. Kingham and Mrs E. Edgerton. From their two best performances Kingham and Mrs Edgerton have compiled 200 points, with the Nordstroms next on 175 and A. and I. Britton (125), third. There will be separate races for the 16ft, 18ft, 21ft, and Noelex divisions in the Trailer-Sailer squadron’s championships. The Burrough Trophy, at stake in the Noelex section, will be in competition for the first time. The Canterbury club has I the responsibility of administrating the open handicap contests for the H. A. Rhind Trophy (Javelins and R class), Norris Barometer (multi-hulls and Flying Dutchman), and Groves Meikle Trophy (J.C. class and monotypes). On Sunday morning two more trophies will be decided ■on corrected times—the Bux;ton Cup (open) and the Estuary Trophy (P class, second heat) —from the Mount Pleasant club at the Estuary. About the same time, the first heat of the 1973 intersecondary schools J.C. series ■for the Peter Mander Trophy ■ will get under way at the Waimakariri club. The second race has been allocated ■to the Pleasant Point club on March 17, the competition concluding with two further events in the first half of next season.
