RANDOM REMINDER
THE CAT AND THE RIDDLE
Today’s tale concerns a semi-retired Rangiora farmer; his wife who passionately shares his interest in salmon fishing; and their very old cat who shares their fish. Early one evening husband and wife were not disturbed to see the cat crawl under the house in search of whatever old cats search for. as it was a common feline occurrence. But two or three mornings later they had cause to recall this incident when an exceedingly objectionable odour offended their nostrils.
Woefully they asked each other when the cat had last been seen. Nowhere could the poor creature be found, but throughout the house, wherever they went, was this horrible smell. As they were dressed and packed for a fishing trip they postponed the search for puss till their return; loaded the car and drove off to the river. So strong had the smell been that they imagined it persisted in the car, but once at the river and actually fishing the smell
and their poor old cat were forgotten. However, at morning tea time they were back at the car, and so, much to their annoyance was the smell. The husband put his left hand in his left hand pocket for the car keys and from it pulled out three old and extremely smelly shell fish. Mis wife had thoughtfully put them there last time they had gone fishing. As usual, on the doorstep, hopefully awaiting their return, was their old cat.
