Union talks on training
GV.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. Builders and carpenters will hold a special meeting next week in an attempt to formulate a new scheme for training skilled workers. A Government plan for retraining adults for the building industry has met strong opposition from both the Carpenter’s Union and the Building Industry Training Board. Both bodies said that the scheme threatens to upset the existing apprenticeship system and to prejudice the position of present apprentices.
The Carpenter’s Union favours a system along the lines of the present Maori trade training scheme.
