Dr Craven refuses
(TV.Z.P.A.-Reuler—CopvrighO JOHANNESBURG. ; Dr Danie Craven, president iof the South African Rugbv {Board, has rejected suggestions that he should ignore the Government policy and hold multi-racial trials in a bid to save the New Zealand tour. i “I am not going to allow multi-racial trials to take place,” Dr Craven said in an {interview printed in the “Rand Daily Mail.” “Why should I?" he asked. “I will not even make an effort to stage them, knowing full well that the Government of our country would never allow it. I “Why try something like {that "'hen it is so patently against government policy? Some newspapers here have suggested that Dr 'Craven should follow the iexample of the New Zealand Rugby Union in standing up to the Government. I “My critics can say what I they like.” Dr Craven said. i “I won’t listen. I “We preach discipline in !this country, and we have to applv discipline. The world iis what it is today because {of a lack of discipline, and iif we simply run off and j stage multi-racial trials against lawful policy, then iwe become anarchists like {the rest of them.”
