Devaluation rumour
Strong rumours of an imminent Australian dollar devaluation curtailed trading in Australian sector shares in London on Wednesday. Broking sources said the rumours were extremely prevalent in the morning session, but after lunch a continual though fluctuating improvement in the dollar premium steadied the market and brought a minor recovery to most mining issues. Nonetheless, trading was quiet, and most shares finished below the best.
