Minicort a fancy at Poverty Bay

"The Press” Special Service i HASTINGS. Minicort won a good double when he took the Carroll Memorial and the Wairoa Cup at the recent Wairoa carnival, and is expected to carry on with his good form in the Nolan Handicap at Gisborne today. The Nolan Handicap is the first leg of the T.A.B. concession double and a good field has accepted, which will ensure that Minicourt has a hard race. Minicourt is a robust gelding which should be able to take plenty of racing, and it will be a surprise if he fails to race well. He has the advantage of being able to keep close to the pace, which could count against his most likely rival, the Matamata galloper, Gazzara. Gazzara has looked a class horse for some time, and could easily confirm this. He is a massive, lightly raced gelding, but his ability has never been questioned. Don’s Joy always races well on the coast,’ and he cannot be ignored. He won well at Wairoa and was a fair second to Minicourt in the Wairoa Cup. NAUSORI NausOri ran on well for second to His Ayr in last Saturday’s Woodville Cup, but the former top miler has been mixing his form lately, and is hard to follow.

The brilliant speedster Nunui should take a lot of beating in the Tologa Bay Handicap, the second leg of the double. He has not been at his best lately, but should make a winning run against this mediocre field. His speed is well known, and he just missed catching Ernader in track record time at Waipa recently. Mr Smooth could be •improving. He was disappointing at Wairoa but looks really fit.
