Cracroft centre
The Christchurch City Council would be most sympathetic to a request for help in setting up the newly formed Cracroft Community Centre, provided that strong membership and fund-raising ability was evident, the Mayor (Mr N. G. Pickering) told members of the centre at its inaugural function. According to a supplied report of the function, Mr Pickering said that the need for such a community centre in the area had become apparent. The function, which was attended by 120 members and friends, was held as a wine and cheese evening in the Girl Guides’ barn. Mr R. H. Thompson, of the Heathcote County Council, was also present. Entertainment was provided by the folk-singers, Simon Marks, Michael Parker and Phil Garland. Among the aims of the society is the restoration of the Old Stone House at Cracroft, and its use for numerous activities. In the meantime, classes will be held in yoga, with Mrs D. Neutze, recently returned from master classes in England. Spinning, floral art and lampshade-making i classes will be organised by! Mrs D. Worsnop. and later it I is hoped to form other groups j in such areas as drama and music. |-
