MAN, WIFE KILLED

A young man and his wife were fatally injured when their car (above) and a taxi collided at the intersection of Linwood Avenue and Dyers Road about 1 a.m. yesterday. They were JAMES CAIRNS MCMURRAY, aged 24, and his wife HEATHER MARIE McMURRAY, aged 22, of 13 Jervois Street, New Brighton. Mr McMurray was dead on arrival at Christchurch Hospital. Mrs McMurray, who suffered severe head and internal injuries, died about two hours later. The driver of the taxi, which had been going to Mount Pleasant, was John Howard Churton, aged 29, of 270 Hendersons Road, Hoon Hay. He and his passenger, Genevieve Thorne, aged 18, of 2 Mount Pleasant Road, were admitted to hospital with minor head lacerations.
