Arthritis Soc. collects $1373

About 200 persons, some in wheelchairs, collected more than $l3OO in the Canterbury Arthritis Society’s street appeal in Christchurch and its suburbs yesterday. With 15 to 20 collection boxes still to be counted, the appeal has raised $1373. Last vear, the final total was $1146.

About 40 collectors from St Mary’s College and Christchurch Girls’ High School collected in the city area before and after school.

The society, which is two years old. is the first of its kind in New Zealand. It enables persons who are normally housebound to meet others ' with similar disabilities and to attend social functions with films, musical entertainment, or guest speakers.
