WATCH ON PIT FIRE

A fire in a pit in Halswell Junction Road had been extinguished last evening but a constant watch on the pit was being made throughout the night. The fire began at 9 p.m. on Thursday and burned most of yesterday. A pump from the Sockbum fire station was in attendance, but an employee at the pit replaced firemen about 9 p.m.
