No decision on amnesty
A meeting of the Trotting Conference in Auckland at the week-end deferred decision on a request by the Western Australian trainer-driver, P. Coulson, for an amnesty on a seven-year disqualification for doping, the secretary of the conference (Mr J. Rowley) said in Christchurch last evening. Coulson was found guilty of administering caffeine to Junior's Image before the 1971 Inter-Dominion Championship Grand Final at Addington in which the horse finished first. In May, 1971, he. was disqualified for seven years and ordered to pay $lOOO in costs to the Trotting Conference, This amount remained unpaid until late last year. To coincide with the recent visit of Princess Margaret to Western Australia, persons disqualified there were granted an amnesty, amounting to 50 per cent of the term of their disqualifications. This amnesty does not apply to Coulson because his disqualification was imposed in New Zealand.
'Mr Rowley could give no date for further consideration by the conference of Coulson's request.
