Canadian news complaint
(N.Z P .A -Reuter —Copyright; OTTAWA, Jan. 18. “Canadians are in peril of being indoctrinated by United States and other foreignbased news reports because the Canadian news media do not send enough reporters abroad,” a member of the Ottawa Parliament, Mr Peter Reilly, said today. A former broadcaster, and the newly-elected Conservative member for Ottawa West, Mr Reilly urged Canadian newspapers and broadcasting stations to establish more offices in other countries to build up independent sources of information.
He was testifying before the Ontario Legislature’s select committee on economic and cultural nationalism, which is holding a series of meetings in various provincial centres.
Flu in Russia The influenza epidemic sweeping Europe has also caused deaths in the Soviet Union, but not as many as in Britain, according to a Russian medical specialist, Professor Lyudmila Zakstelskaya. in an interview with the weekly “Literary Gazette,” published today. — Moscow, Jan. 18.
