Bealey Avenue
Sir,—Since the November! City Council meeting when, the reconstruction of Bealey [ Avenue was decided on. a! senior executive has told me there is no plan. Reports of I
the meeting included statements that “re-forming the roadway will not encroach on the median strip,” “an occasional tree might have to be removed,” and “realignment of the median strip of some sections passes through the, line of existing trees.” I hear that six feet are to be taken from the footpath on each side for reading and yet the council is investigating the planting of trees on the narrowed footpath. The reconstruction is due to start early in the New Year. As a city ratepayer I ask the council to make available for public viewing the plan of reconstruction. Then we can see how many trees will be removed and what is to happen to the footpaths and intersections.—Yours, etc., G. L. CLARK. December 27, 1972.
[The Mayor of Christchurch (Mr N. G. Pickering) replies: “As soon as plans are completed they will be given full publicity?’]
