Rumanians foiled plot

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright > TEL AVIV, Jan. 9.

An Arab guerrilla plan to attack the Israeli Embassy in Bucharest simultaneously with the take-over of the Israeli Embassy in Bangkok was foiled by Rumanian security forces, the Tel Aviv afternon newspapers reported today. The papers, “Maariv” and “Yediot Aharonot,” wrote that the Rumanian authorities learned of the plan in advance and surrounded the Embassy building with soldiers.

All people seeking to enter the area were questioned, and the Black September guerrilla organisation called off the operation, the papers wrote.

“Maariv” said that the four Black September commandos who seized six Israeli hostages in Bangkok two weeks ago and demanded the freeing of 36 Arab guerrillas held in Israeli prisons in exchange for them, had told their hostages that other Arab guerrilla attacks were planned for the same day. The Thai authorities persuaded the four Arabs to give up their demands and arranged for their free passage to Cairo in exchange for the Israeli hostages.
