North loses key men
I The selection of both R. ■C. Merrin and R. J. Sowden in the Canterbury team to play Pakistan at the weekend has caused some problems for the North Canterbury selectors. They picked both in their side to play South Canterbury on January 13 and 14, before the Canterbury team was announced, and have had to make hasty changes. The team to play the twoday game, which is both a Hawke Cup elimination and a match counting towards the Minor Association’s Cup, is:—S. J. Blakely (captain), M. Beecroft. C. Heslop. R. Judson. W. Newton. J. Rvan, S. Ryan. T. Turner, P. R. Williams. J. Lay, C. DampierCrossley.
Boxing.—The world junior middle-weight champion. Koichi Wajiira (Japan), retained h’s title with a draw against his Brazilian challenger, Miguel de Oliveira, at Tokyo.
