This sea elephant, which landed on the beach at Sumner a fortnight ago, is being kept under observation by Christchurch inspectors of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries. The animal apparently came ashore to moult, and the officers expect that it will leave in a few days. Above, 10-year-old Glenda Hayward, of Christchurch, is sunbathing close to the sea elephant.
