SYDNEY. The first of the progeny of the champion sprinter. Vain, to be sold at auction brought 514.000 on the first night of the Summer Yearling Sales at Newmarket on Mond<\y. The filly, from the former topciass New Zealand mare, Richetta, was secured by the Melbourne Bloodstock agent. Mr J Shannon for undisclosed breeding interests. E. Smith, acting for his trainerbrother. T. J. Smith, paid $10,060 for a. bay colt by the New Zealand sire. Zamazaan. from the English mare. Sea Nymph. From a total of 141 yearlings catalogued for sale. 12fi w’*»re sold for a total of 5314.950. The 52500 average was slightly lower than for the first night of last year’s sales. The average then was $2600.
