'Miss Rangiora’ law student

A 20-year-old law student, Linda Hensley, was named “Miss Rangiora, 1972.” at the Rangiora Mardi gras on Saturday evening. Along with the runner-up Anna Jongenburger, aged 17. an office clerk. Miss Hensley will compete in the “Miss Canterbury” competition. Miss Diane Goodwin, aged 18, a shop assistant was third. A large crowd watched the nine contestants parade in evening wear and swimwear. There were some long delays between parades and

■the announcing of the winners which contributed to the audiences, especially ! children, becoming restless. To keep the attention of the crowd while the judges were deliberating, an entertainer performer several balancing acts and impressed with a tire-eating display. The Rangiora Brass Band filled in some time also, playing several popular tunes. The judges were "Miss In ternational. 1972" (Miss Janice Walker). Mr WarwickBurke, a radio and television announcer, and Mrs D. Bain. The contest was organised by the Rangiora district chapter of Jaycee. When the judges congratulated the place-getters. Mt Burke added a kiss for all the i losers as well, much to the amusement of the spectators.
