Hair-care hints

(By

NORMAN HARTNELL)

LONDON. With more and more women setting, perming, and colouring their hair at home, here are a few hints on how to attain a really well-groomed look. . . . Do try and avoid the common error of slapping on too much shampoo—this can only be detrimental to your hair. If your hair is dry or dullI looking, or is suffering from | over : tinting, then use a conditioner after your shampoo. A good conditioner helps to repair and smooth down broken cuticles and makes! your hair softer and silkier. A setting lotion or gel helps any style to hold its i line better, whatever the 'climate. If you use a hair dryer, always allow a few minutes before you remove the rollers and another few minutes to allow the lotion to cool off and finish its set-

ting action before brushing your hair through.

Too much direct heat harms your hair, so use your heated rollers with care. Rollers should never march down the head in a straight line, either, or your hair will tend to fall into sections when dry. Arrange each successive line of rollers in a slightly overlapping pattern, rather like brickwork, for the smoothest results. To curl very short or wispy hair at the nape of your neck, wrap tiny pieces of fluffed out cotton wool (around the ends. This allows you to get a good grip on | short sections and pin them :up neatly. I Above all. follow the instructions on the packet implicitly — particularly when you are colouring. Applied wrongly, it can be a disaster —and probably one that will be difficult to put right.
