Truman’s funeral
(N.Z.P. A.-Rent er—C. opy right) INDEPENDENCE. Dec. 29
The United States former President, Mr Harry S. Truman was buried yesterday in an enclosed courtyard of the Truman Library, in his home town of Independence, Missouri, after a simple ceremony attended; only by family friends and neighbours. His widow, Bess, aged 87, and his daughter, Mrs Margaret Daniel, her husband, “New York Times” executive Mr Clifton Daniel, and the four Truman grandsons led the mourners.
The library is Mr Truman’s personal memorial—his life’s work.
The illustration shows Mrs Truman being consoled by her daughter at the service.
