Wellington unbeaten (N.Z. Press Association) INVERCARGILL. [ Wellington remained the only unbeaten section A team in the New Zealand women’s [softball tournament which [went through its second day at Invercargill yesterday in cold, drizzly conditions. Wellington has shown a completeness in the team which no other combination has been able to match. Canterbury and Auckland, with one loss each, remain as the main rivals for the Benson Cup. All three teams are assured of places in the last four when section play finishes.
Wellington yesterday stormed to a massive 19-1 [win over Hutt Valley, going [to the bat only four times. Auckland found similar touch [against Otago and Nelson, while Canterbury was convincing in beating Otago. In section B, all teams now [have a win, two of the less- ! favoured combinations. North j Otago and North Taranaki, (both having pleasing successes yesterday. I Southland Ais the only unibeaten team in this section, land looks sure of a place in the middle bracket to contest the Mereweather Cup tomorrow. Results were:— Section A—Wellington 19, Hutt Valley 1; Auckland 13. Otago 2; Nelson 4, Hutt Valley 1; Canterbury 3, Otago 0; Anoka nd 12. Nelson 1.
Section B.—Wellington B 13, Otago B 8; North Taranaki 14. Southland B 4; Southland 11, North Otago 1; Wellington B 4. Southland B 3; North Otago 9, North Taranaki 3.
