HOKITIKA, Dec. 28.
Hotels and taverns in Hokitika and surrounding districts including South Westland will again be open on Sunday for restricted liquor sales.
Permits to open the premises from 8 p.m. on Sunday i (New Year’s Eve) until 1 a.m. ion Monday have been issued under Section 216 of the Sale of Liquor Act, 1964, which means that permits are issued for a special social function.
They were issued by the I Hokitika Magistrate’s Court with the consent of the chairman of the West Coast Licencing Committee. Hotels were open from 8 p.m. to midnight on ChristImas Eve, which also fell on i a Sunday. Sergeant J. W. Sawers said I today that last Sunday the police kept the hotels under i supervision. There were no complaints, or breaches of the permits, and all hotels 'closed promptly at the expiry time of the permits. I The police will again keep a close watch on the hotels this Sunday.
