Mother’s milk contaminated

(N Z P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) TOKYO, Dec. 28.

Japanese mothers’ milk has been found to be contaminated by a poisonous chemical compound, polychlorinated biphenyl, according to an official report.

A survey covering 671 women throughout the country had shown that all samples of mothers’ milk contained the compound, at an average rate of 0.035 parts per million. However, the mothers and their babies bad had no health trouble because of the contamination.

The general survey was ordered by the Ministry of Welfare after a considerably higher rate, of 0.7 parts per million, had been found in mother’s milk in Osaka, a western Japanese city.
