Legacy of library

One of Mr Truman’s greatest dreams was realised on July 6, 1957, when the Harry S Truman Library was dedicated. The library, containing 3.5 million of his letters, documents and records of his Administration, was handed over to the National Archives. He said that the library would remain open always to scholars and researchers from any part of the world. “Every President’s papers ought to be organised so that students and historians can get at them in later years after his death.”
