Lake Hayes pollution

(N.Z. Press Association)

INVERCARGILL, Dec. 27. A request for an inquiry into pollution in Lake Hayes. 10 miles from Queenstown, has been sent to the Minister of the Environment (Mr Walding) by Adrian Chisholm, of Queenstown, a John McGlashan College student who was announced earlier this year as the “Young Conservationist of the Year.” Chisholm believes the lake will be dead within 18 months if action is not taken within two months. ,

Fertilisers from nearby intensive farm units are polluting a creek which runs into the lake, he says. “This could be corrected by 24 hours work to divert the creek to >the lake outlet.”
