Embassy hit in Beirut

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) BEIRUT, Dec. 21. Lebanese security authorities are investigating the rocket attack last night on the United States Embassy in Beirut, which caused much damage but no casualties. Four were fired at the Embassy from a stolen car parked across the street. The missiles—identified as United States anti-tank rockets— were launched by a timing device. Three of them exploded in the embassy’s upper floors, showering glass over the main entrance, but the other failed to explode and was taken away for examination. No-one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack, which was made without warning. Previous bomb attacks in Beirut this year have been aimed mainly at Palestinian targets and newspaper offices. Palestinian commandos and some Lebanese newspapers have blamed the Jordanian Secret Service for some of the anti-Pales-tinian blasts.
