Pieta restored

Michelangelo’s Pieta, completely restored after being badly damaged in a hammer attack last May, was shown in the Vatican to the press today, but there was still no news about when it would go back on public display. The priceless marble sculpture of the Virgin holding the dead Christ across her knees was shown to press photographers only. The Vatican is believed to be awaiting the completion of security measures, including a reinforced glass screen and electronic devices, to protect the fifteenth-century work before putting it on public view again in the chapel of Saint Peter’s Basilica.— Rome, December 20.
