WELLINGTON, December 21.

Under the Wool Marketing Corporation Act, Mr W. M. D. Bremner, the chairman of the board of the Wool Marketing Corporation, is nominated by the Wool Board and approved by the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries (Mr Moyle).

The two directors nominated by the Minister are Mr G. J. Stern, of Auckland, and Professor B. P. Philpott, of Wellington. The four members nominated by the Wool Board are Mr J. Clarke, its chairman, Mr F. G. Spackman, Mr T. C. Allen, and Mr D. C. MacDougal. The Director-General of Agriculture and Fisheries (Dr A. T. Johns) will also be a director. Mr Bremner is the founder of Bremworth Carpets, Ltd, a carpet-manufacturing business which he sold to U.E.B. Industries, Ltd, in 1969. In 1970 Mr Bremner was appointed to the Wool Board as a Government representative. He was a member of the Wool Marketing Corporation Establishment Company formed to advise on the setting up of the corporation, its form, and operations. He has a farm at Drury, in South Auckland, and another at Ruawaro, near Huntly. Mr Stern, who is 38, is managing director of Irvin and Stern, Ltd, a chain of retail home furnishers, specialising in carpets. The company has major retail and wholesale outlets for carpets in Sydney, and throughout the eastern states of Australia, and agencies in other Pacific countries. Mr Clarke has been a member of the Wool Board

since 1965, and chairman since September. He is a farmer at Clinton, South Otago, and was formerly a Nuffield scholar. Mr Allen, of Auckland, was formerly general manager of the Co-operative Wool Marketing Association, and is now an associate director. He was elected a growers’ representative on the board in 1970. Mr Spackman is a sheepfarmer and a Drysdale breeder from Wairoa. He is a former chairman of the Dominion meat and wool section council of Federated Farmers, and was elected to the board in 1970. Mr MacDougal, 54, is' general manager of Dalgety New Zealand, Ltd. After j long experience in the wool! industry in Australia, he i came to New Zealand as; assistant general manager in 1968. Professor Philpott is i Macarthy professor of economics at Victoria University. He was formerly professor of J agricultural economics at Lincoln College and director of the Agricultural Economic Research Unit until 1970. Mr Moyle said that the appointment of an executive officer to the corporation would be made by the board of directors. He expected the corporation to hold its first meeting early in the New Year.
