R. Cook’s Mini has now had its final race with a five-port ehgine, and a new eight-port engine is to be built up before the Bay Park meeting. * * * The New Zealand Daimler and Lanchester Owners’ Club now has almost 300 members. The Christchurch branch secretary is Mr C. Gordon Somerville, of 35 Carlton Mill Road. $ * Several cars in the R.A.C. rally recently were fitted with a new semiautomatic fire-extinguish-ing system. A pressurised bottle feeds the extinguisher gas through pipes to the engine, boot and driving compartments when a lever is triggered on the dashboard, or temperatures rise above about 72 degrees Celsius.
