Bull takes a trip
A young bull ramapaged several miles through Ashburton streets early last evening after escaping from the holding yard of a transport firm. The police and transport firm employees, aided by trucks and cars, tried unsuccessfully to corner the animal. After escaping from the yards the bull went through the Hampstead area and the outskirts of the Ashburton Domain and stopped for a short time in the hospital area. It then ran along West Street and went down Tancred Street, crossing the main East Street intersection and continuing to Chalmers Avenue. The chase ended when the bull reached the Ashburton River bed at the end of Chalmers Avenue and no longer presented a danger. During its careering through the streets it went through several private sections. The bull was left grazing at the river bed and arrangements were made to bring a tranquiiiser gun from Christchurch.
