Kindergarten salaries rise
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, December 20. Salary increases for kindergarten teachers were announced todayi by the Minister of' Education (Mr Amos). The scales represented an agreed settlement between •the Education Service Committee and representatives of the Free Kindergarten Teachers’ Association, he said. “They provide increases of; from 16 to 12 per cent in the’ basic scales for kindergarten teachers, and from 4 to 6 per cent for senior staff,” Mr Amos said. Kindergarten teachers with; a sixth-form certificate quali-l fication will now be paid the same salary as those with i University Entrance. The maximum salary for a trained kindergarten teacher has been increased from $2632 • to $2894 for teachers with • basic qualifications, and from | $2761 to $3061 for teachers (with the lower sixth-form certificate or University Entrance. Head teachers with
ithese qualifications have had their maximum salaries increased from $3489 to $3729 and from $3601 to $3896 respectively. The responsibility payment of $ll4 a year for senior • head teachers has been adI justed to $l2O for senior head teachers in kindergarten associations with up to six kindergartens and to $240 for head teachers in asso- . ciations with seven or more ; kindergartens. The maximum salaries for lecturers in kindergarten centres and for I supervising head teachers will be increased ! from $4716 to $4900 for those ' with qualifications up to University Entrance level, and • from $5249 to $5500 for ••graduates. Assistant principals of the training centres • and grade II supervising head 1 teachers with the same qualifications will have their maxii mum salaries increased from • $5040 to $5300 and from ! $5637 to $5900 respectively, i The salaries of principals of i training centres will be in- > creased from a maximum of i $6395 to $6700. The new rates will be rei trospective to May 1.
